Mark Pearson, Director; President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Pearson has been a director since January 2011 and currently serves as our President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Pearson has been the Chief Executive Officer of AXA Equitable Life since February 2011. Prior to his current role, Mr. Pearson served from 2008 to 2011 as the President and CEO of AXA Japan. He joined AXA in 1995 with the acquisition of National Mutual Holdings and was appointed Regional Chief Executive of AXA Asia Life in 2001. Mr. Pearson holds several board positions within the AXA Equitable Holdings family of companies, including AXA Equitable Life, MONY America and AllianceBernstein Corporation. Before joining the AXA family, Mr. Pearson spent 20 years in the insurance sector, assuming senior management positions at Hill Samuel, Schroders, National Mutual Holdings and Friends Provident.

Nick Lane, President of AXA Equitable Life

Mr. Lane is President of AXA Equitable Life, leading the company’s Retirement, Wealth Management and Protection Solution businesses and its Marketing and Digital functions. Mr. Lane has held many leadership roles in his nearly 15-year career with the company. Most recently, he served as CEO and President of AXA Japan. Prior to this, he was Senior Executive Director at AXA Equitable Life with responsibility across the firm’s commercial divisions. From July 2008 to February 2011, Mr. Lane served as the Head of AXA Global Strategy overseeing the company’s five-year strategic plan and M&A portfolio screenings across 60 countries. In addition, he oversaw AXA Group’s asset management business serving on the boards of AXA Investment Managers, AXA Private Equity and AXA Real Estate Management. Mr. Lane joined AXA Equitable Life in 2005 as the Senior Vice President of the Strategic Initiatives Group. Prior to joining AXA Equitable Life, Mr. Lane was a consultant for McKinsey & Company and a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Lane has served as Chairman of the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) and Director at the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA). Mr. Lane was appointed a Director of AB in April of 2019.

Seth Bernstein, President and Chief Executive Officer of AllianceBernstein Corporation

Mr. Bernstein has been the President and Chief Executive Officer of AllianceBernstein Corporation since May 2017. Mr. Bernstein is also a director of AllianceBernstein Corporation. From 2014 to 2017, Mr. Bernstein was Managing Director and Global Head of Managed Solutions and Strategy at JPMorgan Asset Management. In this role, he was responsible for the management of all discretionary assets within the Private Banking client segment. From 2012 to 2014, Mr. Bernstein was Managing Director and Global Head of Asset Management Solutions for JPMorgan Chase & Co. Among other roles, Mr. Bernstein was Managing Director and Global Head of Fixed Income & Currency from 2002 to 2012. Previously, Mr. Bernstein served as Chief Financial Officer at JPMorgan Chase’s investment management and private banking division. He is a member of the Board of Managers of Haverford College.

Dave S. Hattem, Senior Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel

Mr. Hattem is responsible for the oversight of the Law Department, including the compliance, government relations and corporate secretary’s functions, helping the Company navigate the legal and regulatory environment to achieve its strategic goals. Mr. Hattem has been the Senior Executive Director and General Counsel of AXA Equitable Life since 2012. Prior to his election as General Counsel in 2010, he served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of AXA Equitable Life from 2004 to 2010. Prior to joining AXA Equitable Life in 1994, Mr. Hattem served in several senior management positions in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Hattem began his professional legal career as an Associate in the Litigation Department of Barrett Smith Schapiro Simon & Armstrong. Mr. Hattem is Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Life Insurance Council of New York.

Jeffrey J. Hurd, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Hurd has strategic oversight for the company’s Human Resources, Information Technology and Communications departments. Mr. Hurd also has responsibility for the company’s Transformation Office which encompasses key functional areas including operations, data and analytics, procurement and corporate real estate. Prior to joining us in January 2018, Mr. Hurd served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at American International Group, Inc. (AIG). He amassed deep industry experience during his nearly 20-year tenure at AIG having served as the Chief Human Resources Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, Deputy General Counsel and Head of Asset Management Restructuring. In addition, he was the Chief Administrative Officer for AIG Investments and the interim CEO of AIG Global Real Estate. Mr. Hurd has held a variety of board positions including United Guaranty Corporation, a leading mortgage insurer, and the post-IPO board of AIA Group, a top insurance company in Southeast Asia. He began his career as an associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Mr. Hurd was appointed a Director of AB in April of 2019.

Anders Malmström, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Malmström is responsible for all actuarial and investment functions, with oversight of the controller, tax, expense management and distribution finance areas. Mr. Malmström has been the Senior Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of AXA Equitable Life since 2012. Prior to joining AXA Equitable Life, Mr. Malmström was a member of the Executive Board and served as the Head of the Life Business at AXA Winterthur. Prior to joining AXA Winterthur in January 2009, Mr. Malmström was a Senior Vice President at Swiss Life, where he was also a member of management. Mr. Malmström joined Swiss Life in 1997, and held several positions of increasing responsibility during his tenure.
